The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Police Athletic League (PAL) was founded in 1991 as a volunteer organization. PAL aims to develop a friendly relationship between the youngster and the police officer and a spirit of respect for the law. We are committed to emphasizing skill development, personal growth and fun. Our goal is to provide a fun sports experience for pre-high school boys and girls from Scotch Plains and Fanwood. We try not to turn anyone away, but participants must be from one of our two towns. Our volunteer coaches and administrators are police officers and other dedicated individuals who care about kids. Our travel teams play in regional leagues and compete in tournaments. All fees support the costs of running the league.
Athletic Development Philosophy
The PAL takes a developmental approach with all our athletes. This is led by Joe Bellistri, Player Development Coordinator for the PAL and a strength / conditioning coach with nearly 20 years of experience.
Coach Joe developed a progressive system that focuses on power and speed development for different age groups. The younger ages groups (3rd – 5th grade) are taught the foundational concepts to enhance athletic development.
These skills are continuously built on each year through 8th grade.
Each of the PAL programs gets access to pre-season clinics that take these concepts of power and speed and integrates them to benefit each specific sport.
Our goal with this athletic development philosophy is to prepare these athletes physically and mentally for the high school sports experience.
