Programs
The PAL Volleyball Program supports teams for young athletes in grades 5 through 8 who reside in Scotch Plains or Fanwood or who do not have a program in their town of residence. There are both girls and boys programs.
The volleyball program is a developmental program. All skill levels are welcome. There will be NO tryouts or cuts. All players who register will practice and play. The first week of each season is reserved for assessments after which time players will be placed on a team. The main objectives of the program are to develop skills, sportsmanship, teamwork and discipline. Our 5th & 6th grade program is designed to get kids interested in volleyball and learning the fundamentals of the game while having FUN with their friends. Our 7th grade program becomes more competitive with our focus turning to improved skill development while building on the foundation they already have. The 8th grade program is designed to be competitive and to get the athletes the skills and knowledge to be ready to compete at the high school level.
Girls:
The middle school girls’ program runs from mid-September to mid-November. Practices are twice per week for 1.5 hrs per session. Games are on Friday evenings and/or Saturdays.
Boys:
The middle school boys’ program runs from mid-March to mid-May. Practices are twice per week for 1.5 hrs per session. Games are on Friday evenings and/or weekends

Safety
Player safety is one of our main focus areas. All of the head coaches are certified under USA Volleyball and SafeSport. Although safety is our highest priority, injuries are a part of any sport. We promise to be attentive to practice and game situations and if we feel a player is showing signs of injuries, we will not hesitate to remove them from play and have them evaluated.

Fees
The cost to participate will be $215 for 8th grade and$190 for 5th through 7th. The cost, of the uniforms, league fees and referee fees, is included in the price.

Building
For the past nine years, Coach Stacey Madeiros-Cooke has poured her heart and energy into building and leading the Scotch Plains PAL middle school volleyball program. With her deep coaching and administrative experience, the program not only grew but flourished—becoming the foundation of volleyball in our community.
Today, the PAL volleyball program stands as the premier feeder for the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School Raiders. Most of the athletes on the high school teams first picked up a ball in PAL gyms, where they developed their skills, confidence, and love for the game under Coach Stacey’s leadership.
As Coach Stacey steps forward into new opportunities, we celebrate her incredible contribution and look ahead to the next chapter. We are now inviting new volunteer coaches to join us in carrying this program forward—continuing a tradition that has already touched hundreds of young athletes and will inspire many more in the years to come.
The Scotch Plains PAL volleyball program is open to students in grades 5–8 and runs two seasons each year:
- Fall (Girls 5th–8th Grade): October – December (Monday–Thursday)
- Spring (Boys 5th–8th Grade): March – May (Monday–Thursday)

Fall
2025 PAL Girls Middle School Volleyball
The 2025 season will run from October 6th – November 25th. The cost will be $215 for 8th grade and $190 for 5th - 7th grades. ALL players will receive a t-shirt. There is NO 8th grade league this year. We will be limiting all three groups to 24 players. We will put any extras on a wait list. Please make sure to register early to avoid disappointment! Practices will take place Mon – Thurs from 6:00-9pm and will be held at Nettingham Middle School, 580 Park Ave, Scotch Plains, Door 12, New Gym. There will be some days where there will be no practices due to gym availability. All dates will be put into the Team Snap Calendar. Please make sure to check it often.
PRACTICES:
All practices and games take place at Nettingham Middle School, 580 Park Ave, Scotch Plains, Door 12, New Gym. Your child needs to arrive 15 mins prior to practice. We start promptly at their scheduled time.
- 5th & 6th grade girls will practice together on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00-7:30pm.
- 7th grade girls will practice on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30-9:00pm.
- 8th grade girls will practice Tuesdays & Thursdays from 7:00-9pm.
GAMES:
- Games for all levels will take place at Nettingham Middle School, New Gym Door 12 during practices or on Friday nights from 6:00-9pm beginning the end of October. More details to follow.
PARENT MEETING:
We will have a 30 minute parent meeting before practices begin to give more information and answer any questions parents may have. The meeting is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, October 5th at 7:30pm via ZOOM. The link will be sent out prior to the meeting.
